I, Mr Math Weeney, (Seán) am a proud Leitrim man and began teaching in an Inner-City all-girls DEIS school and later in an Inner-City all-boys DEIS school in Dublin. This was a fantastic learning curve and the importance of structure, engagement and fun became apparent and fundamental to every class. Builidng on this, I completed four year in Ardscoil Rís, Dublin where I taught Maths, Applied Maths and Coding. I was pleased to act as Year Head for a group from 1st to 3rd Year.
Along with these practical and wholesome experiences, I have completed a Certificate in Teaching and Learning in the 21st Century from Trinity College and a Diploma in Entrepreneurial Education in UCD. Most recently, I presented at the Féilte Teaching conference 2020, outlining by vision for Maths education. Here I first presented the PHATT Principles. The videos below explain this in more detail.
Currently, I'm on my second year of a Career Break, where I'm following a vision carefully planned and guided by the great Fran O Reilly (www.amaze.ie) to make Maths much more enjoyable and engaging for all. Last year was so much fun, here's to more of the same...
